On Sunday, June 9, 2024, Donald Duck celebrates his 90th birthday! For the occasion, Disneyland Paris dedicates a special day full of surprises to him. Between unique shows, exclusive treats, and a souvenir photo session, let’s look back on the incredible journey of an exceptional duck who continues to amaze us. Since his first appearance in 1934 in the short film “The Wise Little Hen,” this strong-willed duck has managed to win the hearts of millions of people around the world. A day of festivities at Disneyland Paris

To properly mark this symbolic milestone of 90 years, Disneyland Paris has many surprises in store for its visitors this Sunday, June 9:

• At Videopolis, the show “Donald’s Surprise Birthday” will see Mickey and his friends secretly preparing a special show in honor of the star duck of the day. But that’s not counting on Donald’s arrival, which will disrupt the rehearsals! Emotions and laughter guaranteed. (Performances at 12:30, 1:25 PM, 2:35 PM, 5:00 PM, and 5:55 PM)
• Foodies can indulge in exclusive treats such as the “90 Years of Laughter Ice Cream” at The Ice Cream Company, or the “Donald’s Latte Art” served in several cafes and restaurants in the park.
• On the shopping side, “Donald 90” collector’s items will be available for preview starting on June 5 in certain stores like World of Disney at Disney Village.
• Finally, a unique opportunity for a souvenir photo in front of Sleeping Beauty Castle, with a virtual frame specially created for Donald’s birthday.

Looking back on 90 years of career

Let’s take a closer look at the journey of this exceptional duck since his creation by Disney animators in 1934. While the public first discovers him as a secondary character, success quickly follows. His unique look with his beret and sailor suit, his way of speaking and getting angry: everything about Donald attracts sympathy.

In the following years, he gains importance until becoming the star of his own stories. As early as 1938, he made a notable appearance in comics under the pen of Al Taliaferro. His adventurous tales, shared with his girlfriend Daisy or his mischievous nephews Huey, Dewey, and Louie, met with resounding success.

During World War II, Donald even took on a patriotic role by starring in anti-Nazi propaganda short films. A courageous and committed attitude that would later earn him a star on the famous Hollywood Walk of Fame in 2004.

But it is also and above all for his deeply human side that Donald charms his audience. Grumpy and belligerent but so endearing and funny, he reflects our own flaws and clumsiness. Easily identifiable with this character who has become a true icon over 90 years across generations.
