Vaiana 2 unveils its event trailer and sets the internet on fire

The highly anticipated teaser trailer for Vaiana 2, the next animated film from Walt Disney Animation Studios, has just been released and is already breaking all records. We invite you to discover why this first glimpse is generating so much excitement and what it reveals about this new adventure of the fearless heroine of Motunui.

We have finally been able to see the first images of Vaiana 2, highly anticipated by fans of the original film released in 2016. And it’s safe to say that the enthusiasm is there! In just 24 hours, the teaser trailer has been viewed no less than 178 million times, setting a new record for the launch of a Disney animated film trailer.

A lightning start

This impressive score far surpasses the previous records set by the trailers for Inside Out 2 (157 million views), Frozen 2 (116 million), and The Incredibles 2 (113 million). This demonstrates the immense anticipation for this new Disney film, which is already shaping up to be one of the highlights of the end of the year at the cinema.

This success is of course explained by the immense popularity of the original film, which was the most streamed in 2023 according to Nielsen. Audiences are eager to see the brave Vaiana, the imposing demigod Maui, and their companions in new adventures.

What does this first teaser tell us?

This trailer gives us a first glimpse of the plot of Vaiana 2. The action takes place three years after the events of the first film. Vaiana receives a mysterious call from her ancestors and must embark on a perilous journey beyond the seas she knows, accompanied by Maui and a colorful crew of sailors.

We discover that Vaiana now has a little sister and that the rooster Heihei and the pig Pua will be back. Maui, on the other hand, shows off his shapeshifting powers. The images are beautiful, with splendid oceanic landscapes that make you want to dive into this new odyssey.

A team of talented directors and composers

Behind the camera, we find directors Dave Derrick Jr., who worked on Encanto, as well as Jason Hand and Dana Ledoux Miller. Christina Chen and Yvett Merino are on production.

On the music side, composers Abigail Barlow and Emily Bear (Grammy Award winners for The Unofficial Bridgerton Musical) will be supported by Opetaia Foa’i, member of the group Te Vaka and already present in the first film, as well as Mark Mancina (Tarzan).

Auli’i Cravalho will reprise her role as Vaiana in the original version, as will Dwayne Johnson for Maui. All this promises a sequel that lives up to our expectations, in the great tradition of Disney animated films.

Heading towards a new triumph?

With such a start and such a talented team at the helm, Vaiana 2 has a great chance of repeating, or even surpassing, the success of the first film. We will have to wait until November 27 to discover this new epic in theaters and see if this promising teaser holds true.

Until then, there is no doubt that impatience and speculation will run rampant among the countless fans of the franchise. One thing is certain: in terms of public interest, Vaiana is already embarking on quite a journey!
