Discover all the details about Inside Out 2, the highly anticipated sequel to the Disney/Pixar animated film hitting theaters in June 2024: release date, trailer, synopsis with the introduction of Anxiety and other key information.
Released on November 9, 2023, the first English trailer for Inside Out 2 broke records. In just 24 hours, it was viewed no less than 157 million times, making it the most popular trailer ever for a Disney animated film. A success that did not go unnoticed by the studio teams, delighted to see such enthusiasm surrounding this sequel.
On TikTok, the teaser was also a huge hit with 78 million views in one day. Proof that Inside Out 2 perfectly targets the new generation, who were still kids during the release of the first film.
A new emotion makes its entrance
One of the big novelties of this second installment is the arrival of Anxiety. Portrayed by Maya Hawke in the original version, this frazzled emotion promises to stir things up at headquarters. And judging by the trailer, she won’t be the only new arrival poking her head in!
Revealed in the Stranger Things series, Maya Hawke plays the role of Anxiety in the original version. A perfect casting when you know the actress’s talent for slightly unhinged characters. Facing her will be the original cast with Amy Poehler as Joy, Phyllis Smith as Sadness, Lewis Black as Anger, Tony Hale as Fear, and Liza Lapira as Disgust.
Inside Out 2 release date
Inside Out 2 will hit French theaters in early summer 2024. Specifically, the film could be released in June, a strategic date chosen by Disney, right at the start of the summer vacation, to attract the maximum number of families.
Behind the camera is director Kelsey Mann, a Pixar stalwart having worked on Monsters University and Onward. The production will be handled by Mark Nielsen, to whom we owe the very successful Toy Story 4. A creative duo that should make it possible to preserve the DNA of Inside Out, while exploring new avenues.
The synopsis and plot of Inside Out 2
Few details have emerged about the plot, but the official synopsis already tells us a bit about what awaits Riley and her emotions:
“Newly graduated, Riley is now a teenager, which is bound to cause major upheaval at headquarters as they deal with something unexpected: the arrival of new emotions! Joy, Sadness, Anger, Fear and Disgust – who have been operating successfully for so long – don’t really know how to react when Anxiety shows up. And it looks like she’s not alone…”
This suggests many twists and turns in Riley’s mind, on the threshold of adulthood. Between raging hormones and the quest for independence, the journey promises to be rich in emotions!
The return of teenage Riley
Riley, the heroine of the first film, returns in Inside Out 2. Only she’s no longer a child, but a newly graduated teenager. Obviously, such huge changes in her life will have consequences for her emotions. Hence the thunderous arrival of Anxiety, and potentially other newcomers.
With its universal theme, Inside Out had managed to captivate a wide audience upon its release in 2015. The animated film grossed nearly $858 million at the worldwide box office. Figures that the sequel hopes to surpass, capitalizing on the sustained popularity of the first film. If it succeeds in providing an adventure equal to its predecessor, Inside Out 2 has every chance of becoming the animated blockbuster of summer 2024. See you in theaters in June!
